Hi there, and welcome to Ami Vine House!
We’re Paul and Jenny, originally from Berlin.
Our love for southern Africa, especially South Africa and Cape Town, goes back over 20 years, and a couple of years ago we decided this is where we wanted to build our life.
With backgrounds in hospitality (Paul), wine, gastronomy and literature (Jenny), it felt natural to combine what we know and love: creating warm, colorful places where travelers can feel at home. That’s how our little guesthouse was born, built with lots of care, love for detail, and a splash of bold color.
For the first year and a half, we actually lived here ourselves as a family of four, in what is now our Blue Sky apartment.
These days we live just around the corner. That means we still pop in every day (unless it’s school holidays and we’ve escaped for some camping adventures with our kids and friends). Most of the time, we’re close by and happy to meet you in person and have a chat about Cape Town, if you’d like.
We fell in love with Sea Point long before we finally moved here. It was the vibrant, diverse neighbourhood that’s just five minutes’ walk from the ocean promenade, where the salty Atlantic air always puts a smile on our faces, that made us fall in love with Sea Point.
Only later we realised it’s also one of the few places in Cape Town which is protected, most of the time, from the strong winds you experience when you live at the ocean. The late sunsets are giving you the extra two ours of sun and make you happy when you see it dipping into the cold Atlantic Ocean.
Even so Sea Point beaches can’t compare with Clifton or Camps Bay, we do have a couple of tidal pools with Cape Towns favourite one at Saunders Beach. Here people come for the cold dips that apparently make you live, longer and makes you happy (when you get out).
You’ll find countless restaurants, cafés, shops and gyms along Main and Regent Road, with Lion’s Head and Signal Hill rising up behind you.
The City Bowl, Waterfront or the rest of the Atlantic Seaboard are all just a short Uber ride away. If you are an adventurer you can also take the mini bus (taxi) connecting Sea Point and the City Bowl.
But to be honest, at the moment Sea Point is changing fast, sometimes faster than we can keep up with. One week a street still has its quirky old houses, the next week they’re gone and replaced by new high-rises.
We’re very aware that as a guesthouse we’re part of the tourism industry, and with that comes responsibility. Cape Town has always been known for its small, owner-run guesthouses full of personality and care. Sadly, many of these are disappearing, replaced by cookie-cutter micro-apartments and anonymous short-term rentals.
This is our little plea for keeping the guesthouse culture alive: by choosing to stay in places like ours (or any of the other wonderful small guesthouses in Cape Town), you’re supporting local people and preserving something unique.

No, we don’t have private parking.
Ami Vine House is located in a small rue de sac with only limited on street parking, which we share with our neighbours. The street is video monitored.
If our street is full you have to park in the neighbouring streets.
As a European you might be used to walk 80 meters but as a South African you have to get used to this 🙂
Its quite safe to park you car overnight just don’t leave anything visible inside the car. It does not matter if you think it’s something valuable, better put it in the boot. This is a general tip for other big cities and not only to South Africa.
No, unfortunately, pets are not allowed
Each of our rooms accommodate up to 2 guests, with the exceptions of Vine House and Blue Sky, which offer space for up to 3 guests
